Abstract
In a significant move to merge Internet technologies with cellular world, the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and Third Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2) adopted the Internet based protocol, SIP, as their multi-media session control protocol. It was originally intended for the use of broadband links. However, the bandwidth of air the interface of 3G is still several orders of magnitude behind. Consequently managing the post-dialing delay becomes a significant issue.
This project evaluates the performance of this scheme for reducing the post-dialing period and introduces a novel scheme that can be used as an alternative.
