Abstract
This talk summarises the difficulties the COSC121 teaching staff have experienced with the use of Java as a teaching language and proposes the use of Python as an alternative. It gives a brief overview of the Python language and suggests how it might be used in teaching COSC121 and COSC122, including some simple example code. The implications of such a change on the stage 2 and 3 curriculum are briefly discussed. Time will be left at the end for questions and a "frank exchange of views".
