Abstract
Eye trackers have traditionally been used for analyzing eye movements for, e.g., psychological research and web page design. Another stream of research, reviewed in this talk, is the use of eye gaze for interaction, as an input channel for computer applications. Two main approaches are the use of eye gaze for command-and-control, such as entering text by eyes only. Such input techniques are a necessity for users with severe motor disabilities, for whom eyes may be the only muscles that can be controlled at will. Another, more recent approach is to use eyes as an additional input channel, together with traditional input channels. This enables new ways of multi-modal interaction, and also proactive applications that anticipate the user's goals and adapt their behavior according to the expected needs of the user. Examples of all application types will be discussed in the talk.
