Abstract
Intelligent tutoring systems (ITS) are effective in supporting student learning in many instructional domains. ITSs have moved from research labs to real classrooms, and are capable of not only supporting cognitive, but also meta-cognitive skills. Although a lot of progress has been made, it has been noted that even in the most sophisticated ITSs, some students do not learn as envisaged by the system's designers. Instead of focusing on the task at hand and thinking about their actions, some students 'game the system' - they attempt to succeed by taking advantage of properties and regularities in the system in order to get the solution from the system. Past research has focused on gaming behaviour in model-tracing tutors. In this talk, I will present the recent research on analyzing gaming behaviour in a constraint-based tutor.
