Abstract

Ubiquitous and evolving IT is forcing rapid change to processes within the architecture, engineering and construction industries. However, the unique and complex nature of these industries tests the limits of computing technologies that support simple domains such as telephony, banking, etc. This seminar provides an overview of the complexity of the architecture, engineering and construction processes that reveal challenges for the computing domain. It focuses especially on challenges with interoperability, domain modelling, and collaboration.

Biography

Robert is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Auckland and past Head of Department. He undertook his PhD at the University of Auckland in the field of information interoperability (for the field of Construction Informatics). He spent 5 years in the UK working on, and leading, UK government and EU-funded projects related to IT in construction. He coordinates the CIB's working group W78 on Construction IT, the only international network of academics spanning all construction disciplines.
