Abstract
In this talk I'll describe some of the software I've developed over recent years in an attempt to automate various aspects of marking in introductory programming courses. Mostly I'll focus on the "pycode" and "ccode" plug-ins for Learn/Moodle, which provide quiz questions that grade a student's program code submissions in Python and C respectively by validating the code against a set of test cases. The Moodle quiz question architecture, the software development process and my experiences with using the plug-ins will all be briefly outlined. I'll also touch upon the assignment autotester developed for COSC121/208, the recently-installed departmental quiz server and a web-based marker support system for use when all else fails and you have to manually mark assignments.
