2011/2012 CSSE Summer Scholarships

Call for Applications

A number of CSSE summer scholarships, each with a value of $4000, are available to students of Computer Science with good academic record, who intend to continue their university studies in our department next year. The scholarships offer students the opportunity to undertake a supervised research project for a period of approximately 10 weeks during the summer recess. A grant-in-aid up to a value of $1000 is also available to selected students who are not currently enrolled at University of Canterbury and are not from Christchurch area.

Eligibility

  1. Students majoring in Computer Science, and currently enrolled in 200-Level or 300-level courses, with a good academic record.
  2. Students enrolled in Honours, Masters, and PGDipSci programmes, with a good academic record.
  3. Students successfully enrolled in COSC366 or COSC486, with a good academic record.

Note: Students of COSC366 or COSC486 awarded CSSE summer scholarships will have their tuition fees paid by our department too.

Submissions

If you meet the eligibility criteria listed above, you should deliver your application to CSSE Reception (Room 332, Erskine Building), or email it to Krys Pawlikowski, by 5pm on the 9th of November 2011. Students should contact a potential supervisor first and discuss the project before completing the application form. When preparing an application, please use an application template listed below.

Selection Process

The award recipients will be selected on the basis of the student's academic record and merit of the project.

Conditions on Awards

Projects are expected to be research-focused, at the appropriate level for student participation. Scholarship recipients will normally work on projects based in the Department of CSSE at University of Canterbury.

Reporting Requirements

Students of COSC366 or COSC486 should observe the requirements of these courses. Other students are expected to maintain a log of their work on a weekly basis, and also regularly discuss progress and any related issues with the supervisor. Project reports are due by 10 Feb 2012.
