COSC 325 | Project Showcase | SE Showcase 2010!

SE Project Showcase 2010! Limerick

Instructions

Write a limerick summarising your year's work.

The typical pattern, according to Wikipedia is:

...a stanza of five lines, with the first, second and fifth usually rhyming with one another and having three feet of three syllables each; and the shorter third and fourth lines also rhyming with each other, but having only two feet of three syllables. The defining "foot" of a limerick's meter is usually the anapaest, (ta-ta-TUM), but limericks can also be considered amphibrachic (ta-TUM-ta).

These examples might score OK:

Six students were gathered together,
Writing code to please their assessor.
Their plug-in assembled,
They thought it resembled
The best thing since sliced bread—whatever.
Cosc325 students displayed
Plugins for Eclipse that they’d made.
Not just ability,
Also agility,
Will earn them an excellent grade

Trip doesn't suck, I swear
It's just bugs I left in there
I tried hard to fix it
But broke it to bits It's
Completely beyond repair

Karen Harris

"That's a big word!" Award
A set of six students named Spry,
gave an Ecliptical plugin a try.
With transmogrification
from graphic notation
they made a really useful UI.

Laurence Lau

The group project began alright,
As time went on it turned to blight,
We hacked and hacked,
We cracked and cracked,
Submit the release and see light.

Eclipse
I stated to know you a year ago
I’ve dedicated all my soul to you
I have tasted both pain and joy from you
You are not part of Twilight now
Please don’t let me down after all.

Martin Doms

Non-fiction Award
500 grams of caffeine
For hours we stare at a screen
In COSC three two five
We're all sleep deprived
‘Cause our programming is so eXtreme

Myse Elmadani

Six spry students a task were set,
Though often they wished it hadn’t been met,
Dreamt of bugs to preclude,
Features to include,
And wondered if Redmine was back up yet.

Peter Empson

'World Domination Attempt' Award
A hard working team named Spry
Comprised of 2 girls and 4 guys
Made a development tool
All others to rule
Should this come as any surprise?

Robert van Trierum

Rolling along the road not paying the toll
Making addition to the load.
Driving the lead,
Standing tall to see.
Be careful not to anger the troll

Tim King

'Most Upbeat' Award
The project is over and done
We’re all sure ours is ‘the one’
Eclipse = rad!
No tests = bad!
But we’ve all had a huge load of fun

Will Gittoes

'Amazingly Awesome Alliteration' Award
Six studious sages of software,
By semesters of study sent spare.
Spry students shaped source code,
Scarce sleep sought, success slowed.
So the customers silently swear.

Transformer Factory (Team submission)

Five students called Transformers,
became round trip explorers.
They worked long on the code
in both lab and abode
and ended up high performers!

Blue Team (Team submissions)

Six students, we all had to heave,
on this, our project's eve.
The code compiled,
The team leader smiled,
And now we're all going to leave
Dragged from our dismal abode,
The cold morning freezing the road.
My house is a dump,
my pay is for chumps,
But at least I don't have to code.
A great a noble trade,
The soul of computers we made.
Blue Team, we tried,
Our wits are fried,
But mostly we're all just afraid.
'Most Conclusive' Award
With the diligence and grace of a monk,
We wrote some elegant junk.
Now that it's finished,
Our life is diminished,
I think it's time to get drunk.
