STAR Course

What is the STAR programme?

The STAR programme allows students enrolled at high school to participate in approved courses offered by tertiary institutions. General information about the STAR programme is available from your school or online.

The Computer Science STAR course provides:

  • an opportunity to sample computer science at university level.
  • a fast route to direct entry to 200-level university courses in subsequent years.
  • access to the modern facilities and teaching methods of the computer science department.

What will I learn?

The Computer Science STAR programme covers the same material as the two 100-level university courses COSC121 and COSC122.

Students will learn:

  • the fundamentals of computer programming in Python.
  • how to think like a computer scientist.
  • how to simplify complex problems.

Where do I go?

Lectures are held in Room 315 of the Computer Science Department (Erskine building) on Monday from 4-6pm.

Laboratory sessions are held on level 1 of the Computer Science Department on Tuesday from 5-7pm.
