CSSE Labs Open Hours
CSSE labs 1, 2 and 4 (rooms 131, 133 and 136 on the ground floor of the Erskine building) are open from 0800 to 1800 hours on normal working days. After-hours access is Cardax-controlled by the Canterbury Card, but the degree of access provided may vary with student demand through the year. Normally, after-hours access to these labs is allowed to all students doing COSC courses from 0700 to 2300 hours on weekdays and the weekend. Variations to this after-hours access to CSSE labs during the year will be published on the CSSE Notices in Learn.
CSSE lab 3 is only accessible to students taking selected COSC courses associated with Computer Security and Forensics, from 0700 to 1900 hours on Wednesdays and 0800 t0 1800 hours on other weekdays.
Twenty-four hour access for COSC110 students is available in ICTS Macintosh and Windows workrooms. Students wanting twenty-four hour access to the CSSE Linux accounts over and above that provided by labs 1, 2 and 4 can use Cygwin on machines in ICTS workrooms, or ICTS dial-in facilities.
Supervised lab hours vary throughout the teaching year depending on demand. Labs are available during office hours on working days, although during vacation periods the number of machines available may be reduced. During term time supervised access is usually available for three evenings a week, and one session of a few hours during the weekend. Additional supervision is provided during peak periods -- watch the CSSE Notices for details. The demand for after-hours supervision is monitored, and we try to provide extra hours as needed.
Except at peak times, such as the days around assignment deadlines, students should have little difficulty in getting access to CSSE systems whenever they need to. We are happy to receive comments about the need for extra after-hours supervision, and on any difficulties experienced in getting access to CSSE computer systems.
