Special Issue on
Advances in Optical Networks: Architectures, Performance and Protocols
To appear in International Journal of Communication Systems
The increasing bandwidth demands of new applications – such as
distributed databases, voice and video services – have
led to the use of optical fiber as a transmission medium. With optical
networks, a new, highly promising age of
communication appears on the horizon. The emerging new generation of
optical networks is characterized by multigigabit
data rates, low bit-error rates and optical transparency over long
distances. Over the next few years optical technology
is expected to become the platform of choice for providing services that
have, until today, been supported by
telecommunication voice and data network providers. The special issue
intends to attract papers that report advances in:
· WDM Networks
· Broadcast-and-Select Star Networks
· Wavelength Routing
· DWDM
· Network Management of Optical Networks
· Optical Network Architectures
· IP and ATM over WDM
· Optical LANs and MANs
· Optical Switch Fabrics
· Optical Access Networks
· Protocols for Optical Networks
· Optical Network Design
· Performance Evaluation Methodologies, Tools and Case Studies.
· Optical Networks Protocols
