The fifth PMCCS workshop will be held at the ASTRON Kongresshotel
Erlangen,
Germany, and will continue the tradition of previous meetings.
SCOPE
The workshop focuses on the theory, techniques, and tools for integrated
performance and dependability modeling, along with their application to
the design and evaluation of computer and communication systems.
According
to the traditions of the PMCCS series the workshop will be characterized
by open and intense discussions on various topics in performability
modeling and analysis, based on recent work of the participants.
PMCCS 5 WILL BE HELD IN HONOR OF JOHN F. MEYER
PMCCS 5 will be held in honor of John F. Meyer, who will be retiring
next
year from his position as Professor of Electrical Engineering and
Computer
Science at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. John
was
the originator of the concept of "performability" as described in his
seminal 1978 Fault Tolerant Computing Symposium paper. To honor John,
several presentations will be organized to discuss the achievements and
future prospects of performability research. A banquet, on Saturday
night,
will also be given in his honor. For more information regarding these
special events, contact William H. Sanders (e-mail: whs@crhc.uiuc.edu).
CONNECTION TO OTHER EVENTS
PMCCS 5 will be held in geographical and temporal connection with the
2001
Aachen International Multiconference on Measurement, Modelling, and
Evaluation of Computer-Communication Systems including PNPM 2001, MMB
2001, and PAPM/ProbmiV 2001 organized at RWTH Aachen, Germany, from
September 11 to 14, 2001. The multiconference in Aachen will end Friday
early afternoon. It is possible to travel from Aachen to Erlangen on
Friday afternoon by plane (from the airports of Cologne or Duesseldorf
to
the airport of Nuremberg), train, or car. The sessions of PMCCS 5 will
start on Saturday morning.
LOCATION
Located in Middle Franconia, Erlangen is home to the University of
Erlangen-Nuremberg. Erlangen has 101.000 inhabitants and offers a
Baroque
style city. Nearby is also Nuremberg with its historical city and
"Franconian Switzerland", which has its own store of castles, caves, and
nature reserves. The three cities Nuremberg, Fürth, and Erlangen form an
area of 1,8 million inhabitants with significant industries in
engineering
and information technology. The University is deeply rooted in classical
humanist education, is the second largest in Bavaria, and has a large
Engineering Faculty. The Institute of Computer Science has a focus on
the
performance and dependability of computer and communication systems.
TRAVEL INFORMATION
The international airport of Nuremberg is in 15 Km distance and
connected
to Erlangen with public transportation. Railway stations are in Erlangen
and Nuremberg. Two highways (Autobahn A 3, Autobahn A 73) lead to
Erlangen.
PAPERS
No full papers will be required, with the aim of stimulating a free
exchange of new ideas and recent results. Extended abstracts of up to 4
pages are solicited from prospective speakers. The program co-chairs
will
check whether the work is within the scope of the workshop. Accepted
abstracts appear in the Technical Report Series of the Institute of
Computer Science of Friedrich-Alexander-University and will be
distributed
to all attendees.
PAPER SUBMISSION
The default process for submitting extended abstracts is the ELECTRONIC
submission of postscript or PDF files via e-mail. The workshop e-mail
address is: PMCCS5@webspn.hit.bme.hu
DATES
Submission deadline for extended abstracts is May 28, 2001
Authors notifications will be sent out June 20, 2001
Camera ready versions of accepted abstracts are due at July 15, 2001
The workshop takes place from 15th to 16th of September 2001.
