Passive optical networks are envisioned as the last mile solutions for high
speed access at user premises. PON network topology, and the unique
challenge it presents for the receiver are discussed. A patented (USPTO
5,737,366) receiver implementation that conquers all of PON receiver
challenges is discussed in detail.
