Needed: Internet routing research

The Internet Architecture Board (IAB) has recently discussed the
critical issues facing the Internet. One of the core problems which
doesn't seem widely appreciated is that the existing interdomain routing
infrastructure is rapidly nearing the end of its useful lifetime. It
appears unlikely that mere tweaks of BGP will stave off fundamental
scaling issues, brought on by growth, multihoming and other causes.

A related presentation and mailing list for related topics can be found
on the web page of the Internet Research Task Force on routing, at

http://puck.nether.net/irtf-rr/

A draft on the topic is at
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-iab-bgparch-01.txt

>From my limited view, the standard conferences (Sigcomm, Infocom, ICNP,
etc.) have published very little on routing, other than QOS routing, in
the last few years. It might be time to revisit this particular topic,
under different constraints and with more operational experience. Please
let me know if you have opinions on this topic, e.g., what TCCC can do
to help things along.
