CFP - Special Issue of Computer Communications on Performance Evaluation of IP Networks and Services

                          CALL FOR PAPERS

             Special Issue of Computer Communications on

          Performance Evaluation of IP Networks and Services

                      PUBLICATION: SUMMER 2002

IP networks and IP-based services are growing in number and variety.
Striking a balance between offering sufficient resources and limiting
capital investments (i.e., avoiding over provisioning of resources) is
essential for providing appropriate and economical connectivity and
services. While a number of interesting concepts in traffic and
congestion control areas have been proposed (and some are about to be
implemented in commercial networks), many issues have been addressed
only at the surface level or even not at all. Performance modeling and
measurement in both laboratory and live networks are being used to
optimize capacity/resource trade-offs. The area of differentiated
services, including QoS mechanisms and MPLS traffic engineering, is
still a field with more open questions than answers.

This special issue of Computer Communications is seeking new and
unpublished contributions addressing issues in performance evaluation
of IP networks including, but not limited to:

* Modeling of IP networks
* Measurement methods and tools
* Measurement infrastructures
* Performance test beds and testing
* Experimental test beds and results
* Traffic characterization
* Congestion management and control
* Traffic management and control
* IP QoS and DiffServ
* MPLS traffic engineering
* Performance issues in IP voice and video
* New IP-based services (w/ performance issues)

Papers describing current research are solicited. Survey, tutorial,
industry experience, and case study papers are also solicited.
