CALL FOR PAPERS
International Journal of Communication Systems
(Wiley InterScience)
Special Issue on
Wireless Access to the Global Internet:
Mobile Radio Networks and Satellite Systems
The widespread diffusion of second generation cellular wireless systems,
with third generation ones underway, has fostered the development of
packet-based services, which make the wireless mobile networks a viable
solution for Internet access. Moreover, wireless LANs are also gaining
popularity, and there is a growing interest in packet delivery over
satellite channels. Overall, the wireless world is strongly
characterized
by packet switching, with a common Internet Protocol Suite platform that
adapts to a number of different physical wireless networking scenarios.
Nonetheless, there are a number of problems that arise in this context,
related to the adaptation of protocols that were originally devised to
work
well in cabled networks and have to cope with the characteristics of
media
that may exhibit both higher bit error rates and high bandwidth-delay
products. The aim of this Special Issue is to provide a picture of
recent
research and experimental activities in this area, also in relation to
the
interworking with the fixed network components and the allocation of
resources to different services in a multiservice environment. Papers
are
solicited in the following and related topics:
- Adaptive and multiservice MAC protocols
- Flexible bandwidth allocation in radio and satellite systems
- Link layer protocols
- IntServ and DiffServ paradigms over radio and satellite links
- TCP adaptation
- Architectural issues and proxies
- Security
- End-to-end protocol performance
- Application-level controls in heterogeneous transport environments
- Multi-layer Service Quality control
Prospective authors should submit an electronic version in pdf, Word or
ps
of their papers to one of the Guest Editors.
Deadlines:
- Submission of manuscripts March 31, 2002
- Notification of acceptance June 30, 2002
- Submission of final manuscript August 31, 2002
- Tentative Publication Date Late 2002
