Call for Papers

Performance2002

IFIP W.G. 7.3 International Symposium on
Computer Performance Modeling, Measurement and Evaluation

September 22 - 27, 2002
Rome, Italy

Performance2002 conference solicits superior papers on the development
and
application of state-of-the-art analytic, simulation, and
measurement-based performance evaluation techniques. Of particular
interest this year is work that applies performance evaluation
methodologies to design and evaluation issues in important new areas
such
as: Internet and Web performance, Web server software and architecture
performance, active networks, content distribution networks, network and
server QoS, and security. Papers that advance the state-of-the-art in
evaluation methods or that creatively apply methods to system design
issues are also solicited.

Topics of interest include, but are not restricted to:

* Performance-oriented design and evaluation studies of: communication
networks, Web architectures, computer architectures, database
systems,
operating systems, distributed systems, multimedia systems, file and
I/O
systems, memory systems, real-time systems, and fault-tolerant
systems.
* Techniques and algorithms for: analytic modeling, performance
optimization, stochastic modeling, model verification and validation,
experimental design, system measurement and monitoring, reliability
analysis, workload characterization, simulation, and statistical
  analysis.

Submission Guidelines

Papers: Full papers should not exceed 20 double-spaced pages including
figures, tables and references. A limited number of submitted papers
will
be accepted for a poster session. Authors wishing to have their work
considered for the poster session may submit a short paper that should
not
exceed 5 double-spaced pages. All papers must be submitted
electronically
in printable Postscript or PDF form through the Conference Web site
(http://www.uniroma2.it/eventi/Performance2002). If you encounter
problems
with the automatic submission, send your file to colajanni@unimo.it or
to
mss@watson.ibm.com
If you cannot generate a ps or pdf file, please mail six hardcopies of
the
paper to:
Europe: America, Asia and
Australia:

Full papers will be published in a special issue of the journal
Performance Evaluation, Elsevier North Holland, which will be available
at
the conference.

Tutorials: A series of tutorials will immediately precede the
conference.
Send tutorial proposals of 3-4 pages to the tutorials chair
(mcc@alice.unipv.it) in printable Postscript or PDF form. Include the
proposed title, brief description of material, intended audience,
duration, assumed background of attendees, and the name, affiliation and
brief biography of speaker(s), the level of the tutorial (introductory,
intermediate, or advanced), and whether the covered material is applied
or
theoretical. As we intend to publish a book of survey papers on the
tutorial topics, the author(s) should specify their availability to
contribute to this book with a paper not exceeding 30 double-spaced
pages
including figures, tables and references.

Hot Topic Sessions: Proposals are solicited for sessions in which a
group
of speakers will present and discuss their ideas or recent results in a
hot and/or controversial area of research. Send proposals for these
sessions to the Hot Topic Sessions chair (zhenl@us.ibm.com), identifying
the name, affiliation and brief biography of the organizer(s) of the
session, the session title, and a list of possible speakers. The
submission should also indicate whether or not the session will include
some published material (which is not required).

Awards
The award committee will assign the "best paper" and the "best student
paper" awards. Student papers eligible for "best student paper" award
must
have a full-time student as the first author, indicated on the first
page.
