Symposium on Optical Communications
June 28, Chengdu, China
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Technically sponsored by IEEE Communication Society, and in
conjunction with International Conference of Communications,
Circuits and Systems & West Sino Exposition 2002, to be held
in Chengdu, China. June 26-28.

Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province, is the center of
Southwest China, known as the "Land of Abundance". It is famous
as the home-town of the Giant Panda, and origin of the famous hot
and spicy Sichuan food.
Chengdu and its surroundings offer a great deal of tourist attractions
including spectacular sceneries, rich historic relics and a variety of
local customs. Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong, Leshan-Emei Mountain and Wolong
Nature Reserve were enlisted the "World's Natural and Cultural
Heritages",
with additional 40 national cultural sites. Details (tours, pictures,
and maps) can be found at http://icccas02.uestc.edu.cn

There has been significant developments in optical technologies,
in particular technologies based on Wavelength Division Multiplexing
(WDM), which have led to to a tremendous amount of commercial
and research interest in optical networks. Optical WDM
networking, offering potential capacity in the multi-terabits
per second range, is poised to be the critical components of the
next-generation Internet backbone. There is much to be done in order
to make this a reality. This symposium provides a forum for researchers
and developers from both academia and industry to exchange information,
and to discusses technical challenges, and commercial development
and deployment of optical technologies. Papers are solicited in all
research and applied areas related to optical technologies including,
but not limited to
- Optical Networks Architecture
- Optical Switch Routers
- WDM Networks
- IP Over WDM
- Photonic Switching
- Optical Network Protection/Restoration
- Optical Network Control Architecture
- Generalized Multi Protocol Label Switching
- Optical Networking Standards
- Optical Storage Area Networks
- Planning and Design Tools for Optical Networks
- Optical Network Management
- Routing Algorithms and Protocols
- CDMA in Optical Networks
- Optical Network Access
- Optical Metropolitan Area Networks
- Optical cross-connects
- Optical Virtual Private Networks
- Traffic engineering
- Quality-of-service provisioning
- Protection and restoration
- Experimental test-beds
