Welcome to this month's SCS Simulation News. This electronic
newsletter is published monthly and sent to your email address.

Our purpose is to keep SCS members and others in the modeling and
simulation communities up to date on the activities of the Society
for Computer Simulation International. Please forward this newsletter
to friends, peers and colleagues with interests in modeling and
simulation.

Please send comments and suggestions to the newsletter editor,

1. News and developments in modeling and simulation

* From Sherrel Mock of the Defense Modeling and Simulation Office:

   The DoD High Level Architecture (HLA) for simulation cleared the
   final hurdle to becoming an IEEE standard. The Standards Board of
   the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE) voted
   to accept the HLA as an international standard.

* From Bernie Zeigler:

   A new project, "Modeling and Simulation Enhancements for 21st
   Century Manufacturing and Acquisition" has been undertaken by the
   National Academy of Sciences. This project will investigate next
   generation M&S capabilities to support enhanced defense systems.

   SCS is looking for members willing to staff the SCS booth at the
   Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation & Education Conference,
   November 27-30, 2000 in Orlando, Florida. This is an important
   outreach activity. If you are attending the conference and can
   give some time to promoting SCS, it will be greatly appreciated.
   Please contact Steve Branch mailto:sbranch@scs.org to sign up
   and for more information.

* From John McLeod:

   Some members of SCS, in cooperation with members of SISO, are
   exploring the possibility of developing a biological model of the
   whole human body. As an approach to the study, it is desirable to
   know what models of parts of the human biological system already
   exist. If anyone has knowledge of the existence of such systems,
   please contact John McLeod, mailto:mcleod@sdsc.edu
