1. News and developments in modeling and simulation

* Appearing very soon: the first edition of the new Modeling and
Simulation Magazine will be appearing as an insert in SIMULATION.
It will include general interest items such as columns by well-known
M&S personalities, news, product introductions, technology
   breakthroughs, etc.

* An international group led by Bernie Zeigler is developing
standards for a computer representation of DEVS. The commitee will
discuss standarization to support common understanding, sharing and
interoperability of DEVS implementations. The group's first meeting
was planned for ASTC '01. Researchers interested in joining the
group should contact Gabriel Wainer, mailto:gwainer@sce.carleton.ca

* The 2002 American Control Conference will be held at the William A.
Egan Civic and Convention Center in Anchorage, Alaska, USA, on
May 8-10, 2002. The ACC is an annual, 3-day event, presenting
about 800 papers, with over 1200 participants. This premier
conference focuses on advances in the theory and practice
associated with automatic control. See the conference section
   below for more information.

* The submission deadline for the 2001 Summer Computer Simulation
Conference has been extended to April 30. Also, companies interested
in exhibiting at the SCSC'01 should contact the SCSC'01 Exhibit
chair,
   Tom Mastaglio at mailto:tom.mastaglio@mymic.net
For more information on SCSC'01 goto

* Announcing the first annual Student Paper Competition at SCSC '01.
For details, contact Ling Rothrock at Wright State University
   mailto:lrothroc@cs.wright.edu
Papers and other required information must be submitted by May 15.

* Have you accessed the SCS Publications Archive yet? Please check out
the most comprehensive M&S research source on the web, now populated
with more than 1100 documents, including the proceedings of the
2000 Summer Computer Simulation Conference. It can be accessed from
