Welcome to this month's SCS Simulation News. This electronic
newsletter is published monthly and sent to your email address.
Our purpose is to keep SCS members and others in the modeling and
simulation communities up to date on the activities of the Society for
Modeling and Simulation International. Please forward this newsletter
to friends, peers and colleagues with interests in modeling and
simulation.

1. News and developments in modeling and simulation
* The 2002 American Control Conference will be held at the William A.
Egan Civic and Convention Center in Anchorage, Alaska, USA, on
May 8-10, 2002. The ACC is an annual, 3-day event, presenting
about 800 papers, with over 1200 participants. This premier
conference focuses on advances in the theory and practice
associated with automatic control. See the conference section
below for more information.
* Four winners have been selected for the third annual Department of
Defense sponsored Modeling and Simulation Awards. Awards will be
presented on May 30 at 4 p.m. during the 10th annual Executive Forum
on M&S, held May 29-31, at Vienna, Va. The winners are:
- The "AIM-9X Sidewinder Modeling and Simulation Team" of the U.S.
Navy's Air-to-Air Missile Systems Program at Patuxent River, Md.
- The "Iraqi Force Closure Team" of the U.S. Air Force Studies and
Analyses Agency in Centreville, Va.
- The "Joint Training Information Management System Development
Team" of the Joint Forces Command's Joint Warfighting Center
at Suffolk, Va.
- Lt. Col. Charles R. Whitzel of the U.S. Air Force's Force
Protection Battlelab.

Watch this area over the next few months for more information about
the roll-out of these new SCS publications:
* Modeling and Simulation Magazine. The first issue will appear soon
as an insert into SIMULATION. It will continue to be published in
that format quarterly, throughout 2001.
* SIMULATION: Transactions of The Society for Modeling and
Simulation, International. This new publication will unify the
society's research efforts, beginning in January 2002.
* Our web vault is at http://scs.affinitycity.com Check it out.
It will store our growing collection of journal and proceedings
articles.
