Introduction

On behalf of The Australian Society for Operations Research Inc. and the
organising committee of ASOR2001, it is with pleasure that I invite
members and
non-members to the ASOR 16th National Conference and Optimization Day
and
to Adelaide. ASOR gives you a unique opportunity to keep up-to-date with
operations research issues in Australia and overseas. The conference
provides a forum for the presentation of results and to have informal
discussions with researchers and practitioners. Dr Mohan Krishnamoorthy
will be a keynote speaker. Two overseas keynote speakers are also
planned
to address the Conference.

Optimization Day will be along the lines of the previous meetings held
interstate. These have proved to be the premier Optimization gatherings
in
Australia and we hope many of our friends from earlier Optimization Days
will be able to participate. We encourage those interested in
Optimization
who have not been at an earlier meeting to come and meet up with
colleagues
here. There will be a registration fee of $AU 100 which includes lunch,
morning and afternoon teas on September 27 as well as a hard cover
volume
of published papers.

The Conference and Optimization Day will be held at McLarens on the
Lake, a
resort and conference centre in McLaren Vale, just out of Adelaide.
McLaren
Vale is one of South Australia's premier wine producing districts and is
renowned for its natural beauty and facilities for gracious holiday
living.
It is close to beaches, the Aldinga Aquatic Reserve, Port Noarlunga Reef
and Onkaparinga Gorge. There is a nearby golf course for relaxation.
Overseas visitors will find it an excellent starting point if they wish
to
make an extended visit to the state.

Publications

All papers to be presented to the Conference will be published in the
Conference Proceedings. There are two possibilities for publication of
refereed versions of conference papers: the ASOR Bulletin and The
Supplement of the ANZIAM Journal (The Australian and New Zealand
Industrial
and Applied Mathematics Journal). The latter is an electronic journal.

Authors of papers presented at Optimization Day will have the
opportunity to
submit formal versions for publication in a refereed volume of
appropriate
standing as was done for the Melbourne, Perth and Ballarat meetings.
Further details, including a closing date for submissions, will be
announced on Optimization Day.
