3D Shape Facts

3D Shapes are all around us.

**3D shapes **have **3 Dimensions:** length, width, and depth.

We use words like **faces, vertices **and** edges **to describe 3D shapes.

Let's learn about each word. 👇

**Faces **are the **flat **sides of a shape.

**Tip:** **curved **sides aren't called faces. Math people call them **surfaces**.

Spheres, or balls, have no faces.

Think of **edges **as the **lines **of a shape.

Not all 3D shapes have lines. Think of a ball. It's round all the way around.

**Vertices** are the **pointy bits **or** corners.**

A cylinder and a sphere don't have any pointy bits. They're pretty smooth.

A cube has lots of pointy bits.

**Tip:** **Vertex **is the singular form of **vertices.** So if there's just one, you write vertex. If there's more than one, you write vertices. 👍

Let's count the faces, vertices and edges of some common 3D shapes.

Great job learning to describe 3D shapes by their number of faces, vertices, and edges.

Now try the practice to master the skill. 😺
